Allan Ramsay was a poet and bookseller, who had his stall on the Luckenbooths. He built Goosepie House on Castlehill. This statue is in West Princes Street Gardens next to the Floral Clock at the base of the Mound, and was sculpted by John Steell. The statue was 'opened' in 1865, at a joint ceremony with the statue of Professor John Wilson on the other side of the Royal Academy.
The image shows the statue of Allan Ramsay in Princes Street Gardens and was first published in Edinburgh Old and New by James Grant.
