Advocate's Close is named for Sir James Stewart, Lord Advocate, who once lived on the close. Some parts of the close date from the 16th century, including Bothwell House, which is to the west of the main close. The close is home to the Faculty of Advocates, and ex-council buildings are shortly to be redeveloped as residential units.
