George Street is the heart of the New Town, its centrepiece and glory, and runs between Charlotte Square at the west end and St Andrew Square at the east. The wide expanse of the street is matched with the elegance of the sandstone buildings, and even its name represents the grandeur of Scottish Georgian architecture.

There are many important buildings on George Street, including St Andrew and St George's Church, the Church of Scotland HQ , the Royal Society and Freemasons Hall but for most residents it is known for its smart boutiques and bars.

At the junctions along the street, there are statues of Thomas Chalmers, George IV and William Pitt.
