Formerly home of Dr John Brown, author of the famous naturalistic artwork, Rab and his Friends, on Rutland Street. When Mark Twain visited the city, this was his first port of call, since Mrs Clemens was ill, and they spent many happy hours with the Brown family during their time here. A chapter of the 'Autobiography of Mark Twain' is devoted to the Clemens family's interactions with Dr Brown.
