Dated 1588, the so called Armada Stone was salvaged from a 17th century cottage which stood on the site of the Post Office, which was built in 1914 and subsequently demolished to make way for the 1970’s development by Ian G Lindsay and Partners. It is now built into Auchinleck Court, one of the buildings created in the redevelopment of the centre of Newhaven. A replica of this stone can be found on Victoria School, where it serves as a war memorial.
The image shows the Armada Stone of Newhaven, and was first published in Edinburgh Old and New by James Grant
