The allotments here at Warriston are part of a large group of allotments in this area to the north east of the city.
Allotments are pieces of land rented to groups or individuals by the local council for the purpose of growing food or other plants.
They are increasingly popular as city dwellers are rediscovering an interest in horticulture, and as a means to grow one's own food, in order to avoid the use of pesticides and fertilisers.
