The Scottish National War Memorial is found within Edinburgh Castle. The site was the garrison church in the time of St David, a medieval munitions house, and later a barracks dating from 1750, which became knwon as Billing's Buildings after the remodelling by Robert Billings in 1863. This building was remodelled by Sir Francis Lorimer from 1919. Primarily a First World War Roll of Honour, it also commemorates the death of those who fought in the Second World War, and in all wars since 1914.

Visitors to Edinburgh who wish to visit only the Scottish National War Memorial can enter the Edinburgh Castle grounds for free by arrangement to pay their respects and enjoy the beautiful architecture and interior of the building.
