Parliament House was built in the old churchyard of St Giles and was once home to the Luckenbooths, or wooden kiosks used by the merchants and artists of the town to sell their works and produce.
In Politics if thou would'st mix,
And mean thy fortunes be;
Bear this in mind,-be deaf and blind,
Let great folk hear and see.
Robert Burns
The image shows Parliament House before its external remodelling by Robert Reid. It was originally published in Memorials of Edinburgh in the Olden Time by Daniel Wilson, published in two volumes in 1848.
