This house adjacent to John Knox’s House was built in 1477 for Robert Moubray and was rebuilt in 1529 by Andrew Moubray.  Daniel Defoe lived here in 1710 when editor of Edinburgh Courant, and Archibald Constable once had his bookshop here.  The building has more recently seen service as the Scottish Storytelling Centre before its removal to purpose built premises just down the High Street.
