The Academy was built on Henderson Row in the 1820’s with the support of Sir Walter Scott, in an attempt to create a prestigious school after the fashion of Eton.  The main building is by William Burn.  Although the school opened in 1824 it was not finished until 1829.

The image shows the Edinburgh Academy, and was first published in Edinburgh Old and New by James Grant.
