Charlotte Square, capping the west end of George Street, was originally intended to be called St George's Square, until the building of George Square on the southside, when the name was changed to avoid confusion. The name Charlotte Square remembers Charlotte, the only child of George and his wife Caroline of Brunswick who were extremely unhappily married . The equestrian statue in the middle is of Prince Albert. The square took over thirty years to build, mainly because of the strict conditions laid down by the feuars of the land, who insisted that any development must adhere to the grandiose design by Robert Adam.

The image on the left shows the north east corner of Charlotte Square.
