Bum (the Dog), Sculpture

image copyright Rachel Windsor

This sculpture of Burn, a famous dog from San Diego, is a symbol of the twinship of that city and Edinburgh, which were twinned in 1978.

Burn was a 19th century dog who captured the imagination of the city in much the same way as Greyfriars Bobby, and the two dogs were declared brother dogs as a gesture of solidarity between the cities.

Sculptures of the dogs were exchanged in 2008, and Burn (sculpted by Jessica McCain) now sits greeting visitors at the Kings Stables Road entrance to Princes Street Gardens.
