This street was once the home of two penny gaffs, Johnny Barr’s and Duckenfields. It formerly housed a slateworks, and it is thought that it received its name in honour of Bangor in North Wales, one of the major production regions for slate. The Leith Cooperative Society once had their offices here. Nowadays it is the home of Leith Mills, IKM, A B Mearnes Stonemasons, and St Ebenezer's United Free Church.
